The Guardian’s decision to publish shocking photos of Aylan Kurdi

The Guardian’s decision to publish the photograph of the Turkish soldier cradling a dead toddler must be regarded as cynical and manipulative, given that over the past week it has been calling for a no-fly-zone to be established over Syria and for Damascus to be bombed so as to oust the Bashar government.

Let’s look at a three paragraphs buried deep in Jamie Fahey’s article:

The same could be said today. News photographs or footage, when used in the context of reporting, can galvanise public opinion and become tipping points in changing attitudes and awareness – and political responses to events such as conflicts and famine.

One such example was the compellingly tragic image of an unknown refugee who hanged herself in the cornfields of Tuzla after the fall of Srebrenica in 1995. The Guardian, along with many other newspapers around the world, published it on the front page. The impact was profound; the image of the woman, later named as Ferida Osmanovic, became symbolic of the unknown victim of the Balkan wars.

Within months, a Nato bombing campaign had brought the Serbs to the negotiating table and the three-year Bosnian war was at an end.

So the personal tragedies of individuals, especially if they are injured or have died in dramatic circumstances, no matter that the tragedies might or might not be related to a wider conflict playing out at the time, can be used to arouse, shape and direct a public humanitarian response into a call for total war.

The Guardian has also consistently lambasted Russia and China for preferring diplomacy and working with the Bashar government to fight ISIS, instead of vetoing UN Security Council proposals that would eventually lead to a US-led invasion of Syria. As if we don’t have the examples of Iraq and Libya to show us what happens after a country is invaded and destabilised by Western armed forces: chaos, violence, unstable puppet governments, thousands more refugees and instability in neighbouring countries.

Indeed the sudden wholesale release of thousands of Syrian refugees from camps in Turkey, where they have been held for a number of years now, into Greece and then into the rest of southeast and central Europe, with the effect of embarrassing and humiliating Hungary, must be regarded as suspicious. The end results of this release - with ISIS sleeper cells perhaps having infiltrated the refugees, with orders to create false flag attacks in European cities, leading to more personal tragedies to be blown up into front-page news - must be to push the Western public into support for a coalition of Western or NATO countries invading Syria.

Without a higher resolution pic its hard to be sure. Looks the same from what can be seen.

Also I have yet to see any media sources claiming proof of the second child being dead, just an account.

In any case pictures, media, and our own thoughts lie. Will be interesting to see how things develop.

Well that just proves illegals are complete scum where ever they come from. I pity the people who live in countries where you can’t own fire arms for personal defence. They could be in trouble soon.

My issue with uncontrolled immigration is not the people , it’s the strain it has on the countries infrastructure , health care etc .
Therefore immigration should be controlled to numbers in which benefit our economy but also so our infrastructure can cope with a steady growth .

In the same way I think people have let their emotions cloud there judgement since the images of the boy , I think you have allowed hate to cloud your judgment and logic in the debate agaisnt mass immigration /illegals

Breaking the law, bringing disease into a country, inconveniencing hundreds if not thousands of people. Hurting the economy, taking jobs, not paying taxes, demanding the same benefits as citizens, murdering people ect.
