This game is unplayable for several reasons

Hi, I pledged awhile ago for this game, and was so so excited to play it, and when the Alpha came out, I couldn’t contain myself, and hopped right onto the PC alpha version.

After amassing just under 2 hours, I accepted defeat, feeling very annoyed, frustrated and incredibly disappointed, even for an alpha.

  1. Game crashes about 5-6 times before it eventually decides to load up. Even then, I’m often waiting 10 minutes ( for absolutely no reason)

2)The alpha is so so SO incredibly badly formatted. My machine isn’t top end, neither is it near the bottom, and it’s unplayable even on the lowest settings - huge stutter every 5 seconds, motion blur that makes you feel physically sick, and the fact that every single time I play, the AI characters are half way into the ground - yes that’s right, I can only see their torso; legs are underground. Poor.

  1. If, by a bloody miracle I managed to get that far, pressing E on a door crashes my game to desktop immediately, and the one time it didn’t crash, E takes about 30 seconds for a door to open, and even then I managed to open a grand total of 2.

  2. spending a laggy 15 minutes searching for whatever I’m supposed to do, you know, because there is absolutely no clue or guidance at all, I managed to find the guy who does archery. We had a brief conversation, which unsettled me, as he had no ears or eyes (sigh), and he said come on over later to his hut at the edge of the forest. So, I explored the village for about 10 minutes, and he still hadn’t gone over there, in fact he just roamed around the house either eating or drinking, and made no move to get out of there. It has now turned night, and he still hadn’t moved, so I decide to go see him again. Heading back to the house, I press E to open his door, and Hey Presto! I’ve crashed.

I’d like to apologise for my tone, and how angry I seem in this, but to me, it’s justified. This is the worst Alpha I have ever played. But I love the game you’ve made, and I desperately want this to be fixed. Could you suggest any fixes for the issues I’m having, and fps fixes, bug fixes please.

My friend played this game flawlessly, and we have very similar computer specifications, so I’m bemused.

Please, please could someone get back to me on this?

its not the alpha, its your pc that cant handle it obviously.
maybe you should post your specifications
and make sure you have the latest service pack and drivers installed

you can turn off motion blur by pressing ^ and then write r_motionblur 0 in the console, I’d recommend this for weaker pc’s.

“Very similar specifications” is not the same specification and every detail can mean huge difference. Also, as @janfo said, whithout your specifications no one can even remotely guess what your problem is. Not even @warhorse…

And to add another fact you misunderstand about the game’s current stage: It’s a TECH Alpha. That means it will only show some basic technology features. In this case it’s the AI, the movement, archery and graphical beauty. Also a mini-quest is involved, you have a wonderful starry night which looks like this:

Just a bit more modern, you know :wink:

The archer, you know, has his own life, which is, you know, one of the things that drew crowds to this game.

As a proud linux user, I can’t play it, but I’d say I’ve seen enough on youtube to know almost all there may be about the tech alpha. If you need guidance, I suggest uncle Google.

Have you ever participated in an alpha before? there is a difference between Tech Alpha, Alpha, Early Access and Beta.
this is the KCD Tech Alpha where we experiment with principal mechanics as well aid in debugging.

If you talk to people (like IRL) they have tendency to give out helpful info from time to time.

Care to list them so someone might actually assist you?

Welcome to Alpha testing friend you have to go into this expectation less otherwise you will never be satisfied.

Why would someone complain about an unfinished game which is not a real alpha version but presents the current development status in a rather stable build?

Sometimes I don’t know about those rhetorical questions…

My machine specs

i7 4770k clocked at 3.90 Ghz

nvidia 770 4gb graphics card over clocked by 10%

8gbs or ram

and 250 gbs of virtual ram

currently i run the game on the highest settings they got and i get a solid 60 fps at least

edit: game requires 8gbs of ram

I hope it’s not on an SSD and not on a single HDD (JBOD configuration). You’d better get more RAM and scrap the idea of virtual RAM.

the whole thing isn’t solid state drive and dont worry i still have a whole 2.0 tB left of space.

Well umm… use your money for more RAM instead of big size SSDs. Larger SSDs have a lower lifetime and if you fill it with ever-changing virtual RAM information, you’re going to quicken that process a lot. I have 24 GB RAM and don’t use any virtual RAM and I can’t complain about my current speed at all.
