Warhorse Studios increased the saturation, just like Project RED

After watching the Let’s Play of Gronkh it seems to me that Warhorse has massively increased the saturation of the game. Project Red did exactly the same with Witcher 3. I wonder why. Thoughts?

I’m divided in my opinion on the saturation increase. On the one hand it makes everything more colorful, on the other hand it makes the people look like toys, like pawns in a game that you play on the table.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions. The difference in color saturation could simply be a result of different video rendering settings, e.g. RGB levels and color spaces. This often happens when using Sony Vegas.

I like the increased vibrancy in the witcher 3:P

Real life can be pretty colorful, but if it’s too much I’m sure we can adjust the saturation ourselves.

At least for The Witcher 3 I can say for sure that it’s not due to rendering settings.

But Witcher 3 is already released. Based on the current footage we have, it’s pure speculation.

I am pretty sure the person in the beta screenshot also mentions in her videos that she’s playing on around medium quality… Just putting that out there.

Also I liked the increased saturation in the witcher game, made the game feel more vibrant and the colors popped beautifully, especially in Skellige.

I guess it comes down to personal taste. To me the Witcher 3 looks more beautiful in the trailer (with less saturation). But also the landscape looks completely different to me with less saturation. It looks much colder, and more europeanish instead of desertish.

If you’re on PC you can always use ReShade to tweak colors to your liking. I think it’s just an artistic choice of the developer, if they really did change the saturation.

I’m worried that those shaders will make my performance worse.
Does ReShade have an impact on the performance?

Not really. It’s really lightweight. Most likely you won’t even notice it, especially with single-pass pixel shaders that simply change some colors.

What are your system specs?

ehm… 2 x 1080 Ti, 2xXeon E5-2689 v4 (2x10x3,7 Ghz, maximum all-core frequency), 64 GB RAM… ok, I don’t wanna boast about it. I know it’s a bit overkill.

And you’re really worried about ReShade performance? xD
Nice rig btw, although I’m not sure if the game uses that many cores.
Do you play in 4K? And how much did it cost? Even one of those CPUs is 2.5K xD

What I miss was the actual intent of the setting of Witcher 3. A cold, harsh landscape with dead grass and leafless trees. Why do most games nowdays never have a proper winter setting? :c

Because most gamers don’t want that these days, they want bright, eyecandy colours/graphic… I mean nights are not even dark in most games anymore, like Skyrim Special Edition you almost have to check the time to see if it’s night or afternoon…

5k. I don’t wanna talk about the cost, but you can imagine. ;D
But I also use it for video and 3D rendering, therefore it’s high end. It’s a little workstation.

game uses dynamic time of day, there is no increase or decrease in saturation, you’re looking at different time settings. same as with witcher 3

No, you’re wrong. There definitely is a difference in saturation. They even say it in the video about Witcher 3.

yeah by a random youtube commentator, comparing footage of sunset and midday, ie he has no credibility.

even if saturation was messed with in witcher 3’s case. i don’t see the relationship wth kingdom come. provide evidence.

edit: saw the comparison on top. again, we don’t know what time setting the two are being taken at or whether there’s candle light or global illumination being turned on in the beta or not. we don’t know specs, options they turned on/off, or time of day. this is a pointless worry or your part.
