Do you realy believe that there were, at any time in history, no women that were either drawn to physical violence or felt the need to resort to it?
Not knights of course, because society wouldnāt allow them, or parts of official retinues for the same reasons. Not to mention that women in general make worse soldiers than men.
But mercenaries and brigants? Of course there were fighting women among those at all times of history.
And again not as many as men by far.
Proof? Iād say iād be even less likely for women to be either of those, then a solider. Mercs were professional troops, and the idea that brigands who had no issue raping, and murdering would allowed women to be their equals is hilarious. If a women was among a group of Brigands she was probably just used to satisfy their needs.
Ive heard some accounts of women fighting during a siege when it was life or death, and civies were up on the walls throwing rocks, and using crossbows. But youāre just engaging in wishful thinking which has no place in a historical discussion.
Well if you do have proof iād be happy to see it and revise my position on the matter. But i remember this conversation happening on this forum a few years back and no one was able to find proof of them being combatants.

Iām not saying itās a need, I say it would be a nice addition which could give another approach to the game. If itās done, great, if itās not, we still have an awesome game to play. But I remind you that it was one of the original kickstarter goals and it was actually reached.

So letās get to mine regarding mercenaries, the quality of whom always varry masievly.
Yes there are elite units that would be extremy picky about who can join them. And I do not expect women among the swiss Guard, but they are in general more likely to employ women because distance themselves from society, making their own personal rules, often acepting outcasts of society. In those circles everyone that is able to pull their weight is going to be accepted, not nesecerrely easily but eventualy.
Same goes for brigants only dubly so, especially since quite some of them are commoners fleeing there lives on the fieldes, no reason to turn down a helping hand. Especially when you realy donāt need that much strength to sttab someone in the back.
Regarding raping and pillaging, campfollowers, including the female ones often participated in both, so I realy donāt see why that should matter.
This is true but they tipically had a bit more of a say than the younge women. This is especially true for nobility like princes and kings. I guess you could say the real difference is essentially that women were just told, you are doing this, and really couldnt object, whole men would be told, you are doing tjis, but did they did have the right to object.

Peasants actually have the most freedom when it comes to who will they marry because they typically cant move up in standing by marrying, since no one wants to marry them that are in higher standing.
