What accents do u prefer

would you prefer the British accents like the place holders they had in there live stream or would you rather want Czech accents. i know they said they where looking into different kinds of speech styles. i would prefer Czech accents for some reason. Maybe i think it would sound more authentic. =)

Edit: it has come to my attention that the area was mostly German at the time. I guess I would prefur it to be a historically accurate accent. What ever it may have been.

I would prefer Czech or more modern British. I wasn’t too fond of what was in the current build

I agree, Czech would sound a bit better. To be honest I wouldn’t be too bothered if it was British though.

I think the accent of the characters in the game should be based on the story of the character, It is not too hard to make a system defining random character backgrounds and altering their speech accordingly, there will be a common accent but if it is Czech or British, they’re both good for me because I like English a lot and I would also like to learn something about the Czechs and how they speak.

I belive it would be more authentic if you would use czech, german, russian etc accents depends on the persons / npc´s, but for playability i would prefere a version in british english, where the accents are not overstipulated and one is able to understand everything well.

remember there is a story which is beeing told here as well and if the accents are too much it might destroy/ diminish the experience.

I think Czech accent would be more immersive than no accent.

What is most important is that it is clear and easy to understand.
(and if the devs is an example of an Czech accent, then please use another)
then having characters that are not local use another accent could be great.

Good question. Since we know they will be making localized versions of the game, I would actually like to propose an optional 3rd choice. Czech language with english subtitles.
When I watch non-english movies, I prefer to watch them in the original language with subtitles. This is how you should watch Seven Samurai, Das Boot, Stalingrad, Confucius, and other great movies.

When experiencing medieval Czech, I would enjoy genuine language with english subs.

Only as an option.

I particularly fancy the old English or Welsh accents.

I don’t see much point in having characters speak English with a Czech accent. It’s not like it would be any more realistic. They should either have the dialogue in Czech with English subtitles, or in English with British accents.

well, personal I just need everything in english.

But you can argue that the perfect option would be the ability to change the language of:
The language spoken by characters
The language of subs
The language of the game itself. (text in the game, itemnames, tooltips and the rest)

But I think they should use a rather neutral English as the standard for local characters.
Any characters from other parts of Europe who speak the same language should speak English with the relevant accent.

Latin should be spoken in Latin. no subs… since I don’t believe our hero would understand latin.

I think my first choice would be Czech with subtitles. However, I understand that this is not likely to be a very popular option and that most people (re: almost all people playing the game, because most won’t speak Czech) would prefer not to rely on subtitles. Given that reality, my next choice is English spoken with Czech accents. After all, we can understand the video updates just fine, and the developers aren’t professional voice actors!

Sorry to say so. But the Dev in the video updates are not that easy to understand. There are times where I have to re watch something to be sure about what is being said.

Ofcause I believe it is his english that is the problem and not a general Czech accent.

Having English with Czech accent would sound like porn, trust me. :stuck_out_tongue: The game will be captured in English with English cast probably and then dubbed into Czech. I hope that they will somehow supervise the dubbing, for dubbing of games is usually not done very well here. But I have no doubts that they will do the best Czech dubbing they can.

I understand that czech ppl want czech accent (no hate, I’m a czechman too), but I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it would be a little non-understandable for non-native english speakers and it would propably sound stupid (and people would think it’s russian). Well, atleast to me. But on the other side, I don’t like the british accent too, it sounds too wannabe-nobel to me.

I think proper, historical accurate accents are the best way to go - but it should depend on the character + rank in the society.

Czech accent can fit the setting, although at that time period there were many German speaking inhabitants as well. I understand that game dubbed in English is kind of must, but wouldn’t it be interesting to have characters speak in languages of the region at that time (Latin, Czech, Polish, German) with English (or elsewhere localized) subtitles?

I’d prefer Czech dialogue. Not just accents, but for everything to be actually voiced in Czech with regional subtitles. Even if that isn’t Warhorse’s focus come international release, I’d appreciate it being an option. But if you’re going to have English dialogue, then yes, I’d use British actors. Or American, for that matter. Unlike some people I’ve never found American accents jarring in fantasty or medieval settings. What I do find jarring, however, is inconsistency. See the three randomly American characters in Witcher 2.
