What accents do u prefer

Sorry to say so. But the Dev in the video updates are not that easy to understand. There are times where I have to re watch something to be sure about what is being said.

Ofcause I believe it is his english that is the problem and not a general Czech accent.

Having English with Czech accent would sound like porn, trust me. :stuck_out_tongue: The game will be captured in English with English cast probably and then dubbed into Czech. I hope that they will somehow supervise the dubbing, for dubbing of games is usually not done very well here. But I have no doubts that they will do the best Czech dubbing they can.

I understand that czech ppl want czech accent (no hate, I’m a czechman too), but I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it would be a little non-understandable for non-native english speakers and it would propably sound stupid (and people would think it’s russian). Well, atleast to me. But on the other side, I don’t like the british accent too, it sounds too wannabe-nobel to me.

I think proper, historical accurate accents are the best way to go - but it should depend on the character + rank in the society.

Czech accent can fit the setting, although at that time period there were many German speaking inhabitants as well. I understand that game dubbed in English is kind of must, but wouldn’t it be interesting to have characters speak in languages of the region at that time (Latin, Czech, Polish, German) with English (or elsewhere localized) subtitles?

I’d prefer Czech dialogue. Not just accents, but for everything to be actually voiced in Czech with regional subtitles. Even if that isn’t Warhorse’s focus come international release, I’d appreciate it being an option. But if you’re going to have English dialogue, then yes, I’d use British actors. Or American, for that matter. Unlike some people I’ve never found American accents jarring in fantasty or medieval settings. What I do find jarring, however, is inconsistency. See the three randomly American characters in Witcher 2.

I would like the Czech accents and if subtitles are available, even better! The accents would just add to the immersion.

Just a mixture of european/UK accents would be fine with me. As long as their isn’t anything odd like American, Australian, South African or New Zealand (my accent haha) I really don’t mind.

I thought the voice acting and language from the live stream video was excellent, but then i am english. I hope they keep the medieval type language and don’t dumb it down, makes the game much more immersive.

I think it should be Olde English like in the video but more toned down. Less “thy’s” and “thou’s” etc.
Having an option to turn on Czech language with English subtitles would be pretty cool too.

Sorry for this small off-topic, but I have to post this one. You really don’t want to have English with Czech accent there

It can be both, and it could be even more interesting.

Use ONE accent for a city, and the other one for another city. That would create some atmosphere. The variations would be made with social classes, of course. But, eventhrough the character would not change country, the player instead would get an interesting feeling.

To push the limits even furthermore, some random travellers would be a great excuse to bring more accents. Just don’t use french though…

NO ACCENTS at all!

Please, no silly Hollywood-style accents. Plain English should suffice!

So many people don’t want the actual native languages but thick interfering accents? A cliché-looking Russian guy speaks with a heavy accent so it’s hard to decipher what he’s actually saying? That’s what they do in bad movies aimed at brain-dead audiences who can’t be arsed to read subtitles. That’s the epitome of “dumbed down”!

Where do these people demanding such nonsense suddenly come from? Why did they wait till after the Kickstarter campaign has ended? You’re ruining the game for me and I think it’s save to say, not just for me! I didn’t empty my wallet for dumbed down garbage! Because that’s it gonna be if you put silly accents and authentic world together.
Is this now a circus game for clowns?!

I can’t express how angry I’m feeling right now because of this idiocracy!

Why faux French of course!

Someone doesn’t know what an accent is. English speakers have accents too, there’s no default human voice.

Czech accents please. I am so sick of all those fantasy/historic movies games and films where the characters are supposed to be speaking a language other then English having English accents.

Think of the TV show Rome. supposed to be speaking Latin, but they speak British English.
Game of thrones, British English.
Enemy at the gates, British English.
Mount and Blade, British English

British English is just as wrong as american or Australian English or any other form if they are not supposed to be speaking the native English language from England itself.

If it’s going to be in English, as I’m sure it will, either make it with Czech or German accents, or make it that generic transatlantic English accent that has no definite place.

interesting thought, but @OmarTheBest that old Czech lady was hot. all that video did was make we want more accents. =P JK

Seeing how this is medieval times, since the Germans were the biggest players in western Europe up until the Holy Roman Empire fell apart; it would be the most interesting & accurate to give them all German accents. I do think though that a contemporary English accent would work well, maybe have dialogue and story like Game of Thrones, where you don’t know wtf is going on.

Best thing though, would be to use a variety of accents for the different regions as they are released. It would give the game more variety and a stronger sense of culture.

Why do you reply when it’s apparent you didn’t bother to read?
I even gave an example of an accent.
Nowhere I said something about English accents.
In another thread I explained what I mean with ‘plain English’ (=most common English dialect).

Also, look at this, these people aren’t looking for English accents.
They’re requesting English + Accent (question was “what accents do you prefer?”):

You have to keep in mind that in the game’s world English = Czech (original language of the region). Putting an (Czech) accent on top of this world’s English would be the same as putting an foreign accent on top of Czech. Also, Czech accent in English is something different than just a dialect (variation of speech pattern, vocabulary, pronunciation etc.) within the same language. Czech and English are completely different languages. As described before, the rules are set: English is the surrogate for Czech. So, Henry’s native language is English in the game (because of int. audience). Therefore, it would be totally illogical if the main character (Henry) would speak English with an Sicilian accent (or any other foreign language) because Sicily is not his ‘natural habitat’. (Yes, I know Sicily is part of Italy, just a simple example.)
When we stick to logic we keep it as authentic and coherent as possible.

Logic -> Authenticity -> Immersion

Implausible accents/dialects would destroy any kind of immersion.
I can’t be the only one who thinks this way.

€dit:
There were no foreign accents in the live stream, just English. Leave it as it is accent-wise! As for direction and writing, improve on that.

i wonder if the Devs know what they want to do yet i guess we will have to wait and see. but it sounds like a number of people are interested in accents authentic to the what was spoken in the region that the player will be playing in. like Czech in Czech Republic and if u ride to Germany or to some other play that had German speakers then u would want the German accents. cool ideas guys.
