Who else thought of a game like this?

So who else had the idea of a realistic historical open world rpg before they found out about KCD? I first thought of it after playing Skyrim at a friends house right after it came out. I thought of all sorts of stuff to put in it too, like a degenerating wound system and a chain of command system for big battles and even pre-siege planning. For a setting I was thinking 1300s, first half of the hundred years war with Edward III and The Black Prince and everything and the story could be based on St. George for England by G.A. Henty which oddly enough visits three different countries. Anyway I thought Iā€™d post this topic cause Iā€™m kinda tired of scrolling through posts about in-game nudity, female characters, and homosexuality. I hope that last sentence drew some amenā€™s

Well, way back when I picked up Mount & Blade: Warband I thought about learning how to mod to make it more realistic with more options. I thought about it, but programming was like trying to learn another language so I eventually turned to just actually learning another language.

i modded for mount and blade extensively. in the end i gave up. the animation system was too simple. it was just a hack and slash game, make no mistake about it. so i gave up on it.

Yeah there isnā€™t enough walking around in MnB either. Itā€™s still a fun game though, espescialy with the a.d. 1257 mod.

I always said if I won the lottery Iā€™d make a game like this. I love ā€œmedievalā€ RPGā€™s but the magic/fantasy has ruined the immersion for me.

My own personal game idea would be based in the paleolithic era, early humanity. There would be so many cool animals to hunt, like sabre tooth tigers, mammoths, giant sloths etc. Youā€™d rule over a small tribe of people in 3rd person mode, attempting to see them through the difficulties of the era. Interactions with early humanoids like Neanderthals would be a must. Eventual decisions would include questions of slavery, religion, and conquest.

That would be interesting as well. You would have lots of literary licence since little is known of the period. My older brother would probably make one set somewhere in the 1600s if he could.

I really like Mount and Blade but this will be much betterā€¦

For me, the best PC game to exist would be a Crusader Kings 2, but first person RPG. I mean, including intrigue, crusades, plots, assasinations and courts!

It always baffled me how there never were a ā€˜semi-realisticā€™ medieval computer roleplaying game, it seemed like such a no brainer. You have your household sims and your combat sims and your fantasy sims, but no ā€˜hardā€™ medieval sim. It was always magic and fantasy creatures. This is a breath of fresh air, a satisfying nod to my younger self. ā€œYes me, there will be a game like this. Itā€™ll take some 20 years before you get to see it, but itā€™ll be thereā€. Like @Peregrinus, Iā€™ve promised myself to make a game of my own if I ever stumbled upon an economical fortune.

Now, it seems that I wonā€™t have to.

there was, mount and blade/warband. i played it for a long time and extended by modding or playing total conversions for many years. it was the standard for realistic medieval rpg for a long time.

but now looks like it will be dethroned and kcd will take its place. and not just settling for minor evolution, but really going the extra mile.

This could be the game I have waited for a loooong time. No Elder Scrolls, no Mount and Blade, no Age of Empiresā€¦ This could be it. I rarely pay online for anything, but I pledged for this game without a single doubt. Come on, guys, you can do it!

Ah the lottery dream. Iā€™ve come up with so many great game ideas through those.

All I need really is a proffesional team to make my ideas

When I was a kid I always thought a realistic gladiator fight with authentic weapons would be way cooler than the magical duels of street fighter and mortal kombat

My favorite genre is science fiction, futuristic games  But I can imagine it would be very hard to make a realistic sci-fi game from the future based on actual events that really took place in the past without breaking the concept of time causality ā€¦ so Iā€™m good with KCD
Honestly from what Iā€™ve seen so far Iā€™ve never even imagined a game can have such potential for awesomeness like this one!

Toghether with my brother we were thinking also about similiar game, but it was mmorpg and players where divided into clans. And each clan had its cave where he gathered supplies. In the end the ā€œcavesā€ where rated by amount of supplies they gathered through hunting, picking and crafting.
There was also lot of PvP, like stealing supplies, raids on other caves, ambushes, mammoth hunt and so on.

I actually sent the guys whoā€™re making RUST an email to try and encourage them to make their game set in the paleolithic era. Needless to say I never got a reply. Their game really seems perfect for that, if youā€™ve seen any footage.

Anyways, Iā€™ve gone as far as keeping a small outline of all the ideas Iā€™d want in a game. Clans and tribes is always central to the them, as well as the MMO route though Iā€™m not sure is current tech could run it ideally. Whatā€™s really shocking is that, yet again, their is virtually nothing from game developers with this idea for a game. I honestly think it would be huge, possibly like the next minecraft idea. You hear me Warhorse?

well the game is based off realism so I think everyone has sort of thought of this. Everyone who has seen a movie with knights has seen this before. I think weā€™re all glad someones finally taking a real shot at doing it.

First time I saw The Holy Grail

Stop scrolling, youā€™ve arrived!

There are two other indie games in the making that have a realistic, non-fantasy setting:
Life is Feudal
Gloria Victis
Both are MMOs but apparently not the usual MMORP WoW-clone crap.
Both are greenlit on steam and Gloria Victis has its own crowd funding going on.
Personally I think Life is Feudal looks especially promising. It looks like a mix of Mount and Blade, Minecraft and DayZ, gameplay-wise.

Amusingly enough I have jotted down notes about a game like this set in the Peloponnesian War or even in the legendary pre-history times of the Illiad, that is not a cookie cutter power fantasy. Or something set in the early 9th century with Vikings. With themes of exploration, combat in small bands and soldiery brotherhood. Realistic as it could be with its combat, naval and land exploration and life as a warrior/trader/explorer.

Alas I am the proverbial ā€œideas manā€, lack the attention span and drive to make anything.
