Combat in this game is quite difficult, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Learning to block, parry, feint, and strike when you should are indeed hard to learn, but once you have mastered the sequences, it becomes alot easier and enjoyable. I also think what you plan on is a factor as well, I feel as a PS4 player, the controls are buggy and unresponsive at times.
One thing about combat I do find amazing is not just your stats are important but also your weapon choice, based on the enemies you face. You piercing, slashing, and bashing damage, and whats your armor your opponent has also affects how the fight plays out. You also need to make sure you are not trying to go above your “player skill” level. You want to be all cool and use a battle axe, but you don’t have a shield and the axe is the best with defense by itself, that coupled with the fact that you don’t full grasp the combat yet is a recipe for disaster. I can honestly tell you I am for the most part terrible at melee combat, I prefer a mace and shield, but also have a long sword available just in case.
I have however become quite proficient at archery, and thats saying alot with no targeting symbol in this game. So for my and this first playthrough, stealth and patience have been very important. Can’t tell you how many times some well placed piercing arrows to an enemy without a faceplate have saved my life, when 3 enemies are running at me to hack and slash.
This game still needs some work, balancing, and tweaking, but I am grateful for the hardwork they did putting it together and look forward to more!!
