Levels of Realism - the little details

Read my example on how it is not cheaper. And I can build a PC with an I3 and a 750TI which will have more raw computing power than an XBOX for about the same. It involves browsing the second hand market but it is entirely possible. You will play games with the same or more fidelity in it as well. The Xbox games are not 1080P and if you make that compromise on a PC, you can really push the graphics. In my crappy laptop which has similar GPU to a 750TI and a CPU that makes the Jaguar inside the XBOX look like the relic that it is, I can play this with 720p (same resolution of Xbox) upscaled to 1080P with Medium presets and high textures to make the game a little bit sharper. Plus, I can chose which options I want to activate on my game to make it run smoother. I wont need to upgrade that PC anytime soon if all I do is a bit of light gaming. I can also work on it, do 3D modelling browse the internet for free, and have all the PC exclusives.

To prove my point, I went on ebay and searched 750ti. This came up:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/142695428763?rt=nc

less than 50 quid for a pretty nifty GPU which leaves me around 200 quid to match the price of the XBOX 1 S. Pretty feasable.

Fuck it, I went and looked at prices for a GTX 660 (the min spec for PC which is quite a nice card with almost 1k cuda cores) and found this:

less than 20 quid. Sure the price will go up before auction ends but it is a DX11 capable GPU with close to 1k CUDA cores. It is still better than a 1050 or 1050 TI and will run this game great. That leaves me more than 200 pounds for the rest of the system!

There is no magic inside consoles, they are computers. Weak computers, but computers. Anda gain, this PC will run all games today with no problem. Sure you might need to adjust resolutions and settings but hey, you can’t do it in a console.

I’ll add also, that when Henry is drunk there’s not only camera just rotates and etc. , but when you’re talking with someone dialogue screen Henry is shacking. There’re lots of details in the game, that most of the people are missing. You can understand it even by looking in art-book*

( * ) I do recommend to buy that on steam(It’s costs not that much), but there are lots of interesting stuff and you can see, how devs passionately made this game.

But these are used prices today. How much were these four years ago

What?
Ok, if you want to play that game then, How much as an Xbox one or PS4 during launch?

500 bucks, also correct me if im wrong, but dont you have to have the minimum requirements to even start a PC game? The computer i have that was on par with xbox is not strong enough for most minimum requirements

Yes I do. a 660, an i3, 8 GB of ram and a 500GB HDD is more than you need. You might even go into APUs and you will still have all you need. Heck, using intel on board gpu’s which are not great still provide you with enough to start a game.

the 660 is a 2012 GPU and at launch it cost 230 US so 4 years ago (2014) you could probably get it by 2/3rds of that or less depending on the model. Which would be around 150 bucks which would leave you 350 bucks for the rest. Perfectly possible. And you will get more raw computing power than an XBOX 1. You see, there are no miracles. You either have something which will cost the company money (like the PS3) or you get 500 bucks of hardware.

Interesting, everytime ive tried to “build” a computer on tiger direct or egg something, its always been very expensive to meet minimum requirements of a PC game im interested in. Then in my experience you’ve always got to keep up with the games.

Look at my laptop. I can run KCD on medium settings at 720p. It is slow as hell with low settings at 1080p (this game is harsh on resolution scaling). I can play the game but I have to make some compromises. If you buy a sweetspot computer, it will last you quite a while and then you can upgrade your PC part by part so it is cheaper. For instance, for the extra price of games and the internet anuity, you can easily afford a new mid range GPU once you need one. But you can always lower graphics on a PC which makes the game run albeit not as you would like it but that is another issue.

Let me ask you this. How likely am i to ruin something while building this computer? And what mother board should i look for?

Let’s take this to PM as to not derail the thread further.

If you need help pricing and building just pm me. Its really not that difficult and completely worth it. He is correct that you can build a $500 pc that will outperform a console. Also the steam sales are amazing.

I have a desktop I built… It sits in my entertainment center hooked up to my 57" 4k TV. I use blutooth for keyboard, mouse, and controller. I sit on my couch very comfortably and play.

I like the accurate simulation of the times via -

  • Fast travel, apparently you could do this back then, can’t even do this now
  • Guards have night vision
  • You can massacre an entire village and just pay a few hundred dollars and you are free to go
  • You can walk into anyone’s home or business and eat the stew from a pot, no questions asked
  • Quest markers attached to NPC’s, yep they had these back then too
  • Quest markers in general
  • Sleeping heals you from 1% health to 100% health, maybe I just need to sleep more then in RL
  • HUD that shows you a bearing and quest markers (that is super realistic )
  • Stealth killing a sleeping person can be heard over 100 meters away and 10-15 guards arrive in 20 seconds as they must of heard the silent noise of said killing.

“When it rains in game, you see ripples on the water in rivers and in puddles.”

Lol, I see them all the time. Even if there is no rain at all, rivers and puddles have the “rain ripples” effect. I’m playing on Xbox and this is just one of the many terrible bugs.

“NPCs have a morning routine”

In talmberg there are some NPCs who just stand around for 20 hours a day doing absolutely nothing. This breaks immersion completely.

  • If your visibility is low the guards won’t spot you at night, especially if you’re sneaking. Noise also does something.
  • Maybe you killed all the witnesses of the murders but someone who saw you stealing something survived. For killing someone you get put in jail for 10 days, longer if you kill multiple people.
  • You are armed with a kitchen knife and nothing else, and a knight in plate armour walks into your home and eats a spoon of your soup and then leaves, will you ask a question?
  • Morrowind was too hardcore for many people and they got shit for doing it in the beta, so quest markers got implemented. It’s still a game.

  • You are probably bad at stealth, I’ve never had this problem. Try stealth (including knocking someone out) irl with the same gear you used in the game and see how that works out for you.

If you use a controller then it’s not a “genuine PC” and you need to invest MORE? I already spent more by buying the controller… You know you can have controller and mouse and keyboard right? Most of the time they work at the same time i.e GTA 5 I can freely swap between controls without plugging/unplugging anything. Also, pre-builts are for the stupid and/or lazy, I see no other justification for paying double the price of building it yourself.

Back on topic: Reading buff when sat on the outhouse. Most immersive thing I’ve seen in a game.

A couple times now, at dusk I’ve just sat in the saddle watching cattle settling down for the night one by one. I’m sure I’ve seen them follow the leader to a new grazing spot as well, just as they do around here. Two weeks in and I still shake my head at the amount attention payed to the little things.

Laptop has touch pad and keyboard, Desktop has mouse and keyboard, Console has controller. That’s my meaning of genuine.

You are wrong then. Using a controller on a PC is as genuine as in a console. Also, I always use an external mouse with my laptop and that is genuine too. If I am home, I even plug a mouse, keyboard and extra screen to my laptop and it doesn’t make it any less genuine.

PCs have choices, they are all valid and they are all genuine.

There is also another thread around here where a guy spotted a prebuilt PC that is super well priced. As in I can’t build it for that price. Some prebuilt packages can be had for cheap due to the numbers involved. Actually, thanks to cryptocurrency miners, the value of GPUs is so overinflated that pre-built is the way to go for now.

When you solved the murder mystery and you try to load the corps up on your horse to bring back as prof, only to find out you cant and have to carry it your self. Then find out that you cant make the horse follow you… When you get back one of the soldiers in your party that KNOW you was sent out to follow the bady’s arrest you for carrying a corpse… the realism…

Or

When you don’t make it back to civilisation in time for night time. You find it unsafe to travel in pitch black so you decide make camp and spend the nigh under the stars, only you cant, all you have learned, all you have read, all herbs you have created to “realism” potions , yet make a camp fire and buy a rug to sleep under is no no… so you decide to spend the nigh on your ass up along a tree… only you cant, you cant even sit down. So you spend the night standing until first hit of light… the realism…
