Lockpicking and pickpocketing on pc (1.4.2)

Have been trying the damn thing for six hours with no luck

The problem also appear to be during pickpocketing. Pressing the interact button on pickpocketing is buggy on keyboard but working as intended on controller.

My guess is that you are messing up. In the first several tries, you move your cursor to the left. Instead, you have to move the cursor in the circle (copying the track of some referal point you have chosen).

Actually I’m not moving to left but waiting for the soft spot to move forward and then follow it. I tried moving it circular but the lock doesn’t move for more than 1 second

wait what level are you in lock picking, you look reallly really low level. are you level 10 then there is something wrong, are you level 4 even.

Not even 1. Lockpick break like twigs and cost like 15 bucks. It forces me to reload the game.

naw man go make some money, they gonna break for sure. you are not going to wake up in rattay a master thief after some old guy giving you some pointers.

i was breaking lots of them it will get easier. the struggle only makes it sweeter.

you’ll be looking back fondly when 15 bucks was a biggie, when you are dripping in coin.

What about paying his debt?

Cheat mod works good for me. I’m rich

This and pickpocketing aren’t really working for me.

After watching your video, it looks like you’re the one messing up, sorry to say. Hanelik said it, you aren’t keeping your cursor in the sweet spot as the lock rotates. You have to maintain the position, and it looks like you’re moving the cursor too slow. Oddly, doing it faster is easier. Based on the way you’re moving, I’m guessing that you’re playing on a console, right?

You’re going to be terrible at both of those skills for a while. The only way to get better is to practice! Work the lock on the practice chest until it doesn’t let you anymore…that should get you to at least level 3 or 4 in lockpicking. You should check your skill window to make sure, but your lockpicking skill should improve, even if you don’t manage to successfully pick the lock. And pickpocket with Peshek until you get bored…I went back three different times and did training sessions with him…raised pickpocketing 6 to 7 levels, overall. It was very frustrating in the beginning, but now it’s really thrilling to manage to sneak a key out of the Bailiff’s purse while he’s talking to a servant!

It’s on pc with mouse and keyboard.

i get this one, but the pickpocketing one seems kind of broken to me. i barely get the a two seconds window, in which i could barely move the cursor to the item i am to steal.

How long are you holding down the option to pickpocket before releasing to go into the wheel minigame? I hold down past the minimum marker…for me, 7 seconds is a comfortable window of time.

OK so I tried pickpocketing with a controller and it worked. Maybe some issue with my keyboard?

On keyboard pressing and holding the E button is not working quite properly.

the game keys wearing out?, clogged with detritus falling in?
I had a key wear out on one of my past boards.
Not impossible. Before my new flat keyboard I used to periodically take the board and turn it facing slight downward and bang the edge against the table.
Surprising amount of stuff came out.

You’re just doing it wrong. First your initial position is not optimal; the bigger the yellow circle the better and you’re not following the sweet spot well enough. Also avoid the stop & go approach, maintain the button pressed, follow with your mouse in a circular motion, you can also test different mouse sensitivity settings and see if it helps.

it’s a cheap mouse with 1000dpi with one setting only. I wish the in-game mouse sensitivity would also also slow down the cursor in the locks.

Maybe. but while pickpocketing when i press e (or enter) key it only works for two seconds before resetting again. sometimes i do manage to get the pickpocketing green but only after few seconds it shows the message “pickpocketing sucessfull” and closes, even if i haven’t taken anything.

I use the Logitech thumb track ball mouse (m570)
I don’t have to worry about sliding the mouse around. I find this mouse makes the gold ball movement fairly easy. As to keeping the detector bay clean all I hafta do is pop the ball quick wipe the 3 nylon slide on bits give the ball a wipe with a micro fiber towel and good to go.

In the beginning, I thought lockpicking was broken..I had tried several times, to no avail I could not get the "Very Easy" chest that the old Miller had instructed me to open. Agitated, I began searching for answers on some of the forums.. To my discovery a lot of people were having the same issue. What I had noticed was:
   - Trying to lockpick when playing on a console, or gaming pad is "Much" more difficult then apposed to using the mouse and keyboard.

Seeing this, I decided to give it another go. I would advise you to listen to some of the others here. Try to go "Faster" with your mouse whilst holding D.
    - Starting with a "Very Easy" chest of course.

After giving the lockpicking some more time, I had discovered it was “Skill” based. To my surprise, I had eventually cracked open the lock

Now, I only need to carry around a few lock-picks. Even lock-picking Very Hard chest will become a breeze. As you level up your lock-picking skill, it does get easier.
