" If that is too much for you maybe try playing skyrim…"

Well, that didn’t take long. We’ve found an ass.

Well, you’re certainly in the minority. These devs have already said they’ve received many complaints about this, and a quick search will bring up multiple threads on multiple sites, with many posts in each thread. One in a hundred is the “I’m better than you… I did it easily” trophy seekers. No trophy here. Lockpicking was supposed to be like the beta, which worked fine. There is a weird interference issue between mouse DPI and controller, which shouldn’t be there. Same reason “invert y-axis” does nothing, but “invert mouse” inverts controller y-axis instead. When lockpicking is back to the way it was in the beta, all of these complaints will go away.

A tip that has helped me is stop using your thumbs. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but hear me out.

Put the controller between your thighs/knees and squeeze a bit. Now that the controller is stable in front of you, use your index and thumb on the analog sticks like you were actually holding a set of lockpicks.

You’ll have FAR more control and be able to hold the sticks (picks) in place properly while rotating. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you’ll notice it’s far easier than using your thumbs.

A lot of people don’t understand this. There are interference issued between controller and mouse for sure. Go to settings and try inverting the y-axis. Nothing will happen. Now go to mouse settings and “invert mouse” …now the controller’s y-axis will invert. This isn’t the real problem… the real problem is mouse DPI is now affecting controller stick input… and vice versa. I tried with M & K while the controller was plugged in… and it was nigh impossible, but disconnecting it made a difference. Not a big one, but it felt different. Nobody is going to mess with their mouse DPI to get a controller to work, they shouldn’t have to.
Anyway, they already announced they got a lot of feedback complaining about this, and are going to fix this. Until then, you can use a simple mod (go to Nexus). It just simulates one of the perks that auto picks locks at your skill level. There’s another to skip intro, and a third to let you save whenever you want (like the beta). There are also some others for visuals or something, IDK. I haven’t used a mod in years, and don’t like to use them because it cheapens things, especially on the first playthrough… but in this case, I needed one to advance a questline, and skipping an intro isn’t cheating anything. The game save one is questionable, however, but I also heard the save system is being reviewed by devs (heard this in Rock,Paper, Shotgun article). I don’t know how true this is, however.

I know am mad cuz everyone is complaining about lock picking only us a few gamers who like extremely hard games arent am not saying am good but i simply like the game to challenge me at 1rt the lock picking was very hard i couldnt pick any locks then i got really better till i mastered it i felt an accomplishment.

This is on the Xbox one, at the end of the video I’m up to lockpicking lvl 5. As you can see it’s not difficult.

Lockpicking Xbox One S

Probably the easiest system in any RPG that I’ve tried, easier than Skyrim.

Didnt you every stop to think everyone else is just enjoying the game while the rest of you come here to complain. Apparently the people who knew what they were buying and maybe did a bit research are a minority because the majority are to lazy?

I did no research. I backed during the first Kickstarter launch. Signed up for email updates but never really read them. I just had faith this game would be amazing. Glad I invested!

btw its true, system depends on your own skill, not ingame parameters, and its easier to unlock hard locks with 1st lvl of lockpicking here, than in skyrim

I totally agree that once you get used to it this lock picking system is actually really enjoyable, it feels rewarding because you feel like you are actually moving the lockpick yourself and turning the lock by using both sticks, once you get used to it it’s super easy.

In the beta it worked like that for me, and I would have agreed with you about it being pretty simple, definitely easier than skyrim / Fallout 3/4. What the couple of you who are stressing how easy this is, you’re missing the point. It’s not the mini-game, it’s something interfering with it. I’ve said this at least five times. When you get into the lock, the pick is jumping around and won’t stay still. I’m not talking about when you grab it either … when you first get in. Interference that you’re not going to get on Xbox. I’m on PC and K/M is interfering… even mice that are switched off. I tried this after switching off the mouse and the controller felt a bit different, but unplugging the usb receiver altogether is making it work right. I shouldn’t have to disconnect my mice to play this game. Do you understand? Unless you have a mouse plugged into the Xbox somehow, you’re not going to have this problem on a console.

Also, Go into settings, go to “invert y-axis” for the controller. Does it invert? It doesn’t on my PC version. It does nothing. Inverting mouse does though, and this is why I think the mouse input is interfering with the stick input. They’re aware of this and it’s soon to be a non issue. I’m not responding to these anymore since most are repetitive at this point.
BTW… you’re not going to have this problem on a console.

My orange circle is super wobbling at times, but you just try to compensate and move quickly. If that’s what you’re all it shot

Your “orange circle” when you press a and grab the pick? If so then yes, I understand. I completed a bunch of these… But it’s the beginning, before you find the spot, the dot is flickering around… it’s not even moving it’s jumping. After grabbing it’s even worse because now I’m moving the stick. I have 3 K&Ms, one wired I use all the time, one wireless combo and one tiny combo (kind of like those tv box remotes). Both wireless K&Ms are switched off when I’m not using them, but just having the USB plugged in is causing problems. I shouldn’t have to unplug them, I have a lot of games and it always works fine. The game is polling the mouse while the controller is being used … wait… you’re not playing on a console, right?

i will be honest here i didnt back up the game as i tot it will fail now I know how wrong i was and i feel regret

What other ways?

  • This post is about console not about pc
  • some are saying it’s bugged, others are saying it’s just difficult
  • I’m saying for me it is neither,

Like others have said, it’s not hard they just don’t do a good job of explaining it. Yes the yellow ball will rattle to make it harder but that doesn’t mean you’re failing, you just need to keep it gold while it rattles it rattles around no matter what.
