Making Money Without Killing or Stealing

Yes, the whole burgher/lord vs serf tension/conflict/dynamic is flat out mentioned in codex but not well developed in this game

So, if knocking someone out and robbing them is not actually a crime in this era, why can I not(dresssed and addressed as a knight) knock out bums in the street and take what I want without guards taking notice? Why can I walk into someones how and take the food from their pot but on the food from their chest?

Exactly. There are logical inconsistencies in the crime system.

Well if blacksmithing will be implemented as originally planned, then Henry not only could mine the needed resources but also he can sell his forged weapon.
Best way to make money without killing or stealing from anyone is harvesting plants ,and having the ability to sell the plants at major prices helps a lot, and make potions and sell them for a good income.

So far my major income comes from killing bandits and cumans (enemy of the king so I’m not stealing anything from them eheh), and funny thing that there are a whole lot of them, plus the random encounters along the journeys fetch decent money.

I didn’t say knocking out and robbing isn’t a crime at all, regardless who. You mean why does the game tag some as protected and others not? Because the local authorities consider some protected and others not. to the authorities that bum is a good Christian subject. A Cumin? not so much. so one brings the catchpoles the other doesn’t.

also, in your defense, if my CHA/Nobility skill was higher I could use that option to get out of it, as I do speech right now or sometimes strength. Fair enough. I still think taking looting stuff would/should go to our armories and not into my pockets, but that is probably not how it was either.

The game is just not friendly to passive, honest gameplay as was advertised. It fails to to truly become what it could have been, its damn near close, and I hope to see patches that will fix some of these gameplay issues, especially when it comes to honest living.

it will be. with feedback and modders this game will be waaaay different, in a good way, in like a year or so. Look how old Skyrim is now, and though the mods are old now too, you can make it a completely different game almost. I’m really looking forward to this game when it is like, 2 years old…but I’m also on Xbox One so I’ll have to wait.

You are right @HalfOrcSteve, and dont get me wrong, I am loving it thus far. For their first attempt, this is worlds beyond many other games. I just cant wait to see what it becomes, and when modders start learning to make stories as well.

there are some really good mods for skyrim, whole new areas and questlines, NPSs with dialogue…give it time. If the modders get the tools they need anyway

and this game is relatively small download size, so I feel like once it get balanced out graphics wise and what not to where it runs smoothly we’ll have a lot of room to add stuff without making the game crash. It is a very solid first game in my opinion.

Need mods to get ported to XBox and PS4

Gambling can be a decent income

it’s fun but it’s getting kind of stale to be honest. And its super frustrating until you get some good dice. So many early games the computer would literally win with 1 turn when I would have like 200 points to go. I win a lot more now that I have a few dice…speaking of which, back to the topic lol.

Gambling may be legal, but using weighted dice with better odds of you winning is cheating…if you use personal dice it is not legitimate! Also, I still havnt found any high rollers who will play for more like I think 60g is the highest I’ve played for so far…don’t remember.

I found a few near the 90-100 mark, but yea, its not great. (but quite easy even with regular dice, if you max the odds of rolling triples)

I wonder if you can make money by purchasing raw meat, grilling it, and selling it. (with haggling)

edit: oh, and we have the archery contests that give quite good coin.

meat is insane apparently, though I have not done it. If you cook the meat it is no longer stolen. If you kill 1 boar you will get like 195 meat or some shit. I’ve heard people talking about getting like 700g for 1 deer worth of cooked meat. Its apparently good money. Take a bow, arrows and nothing else…put it all in your world trunk and use all your room and all your horse’s room for meat and you’ll be rich. Apparently they’ll even buy spoiled meat.

yea, I did that a bit in the beginning, before I noticed how good it was compared to everything else and probably something the devs missed. But if we want to be ā€œlegalā€ and not poach animals we might still be able to make some coin as a ā€œchefā€. just buy from the butcher and sell the refined product.

I have not tried it so maybe you will sell at a loss anyway, but could be worth looking in to.

I think it sells for slightly less in exchange for it no longer being considered stolen, not sure on that though

If you put it that way, Link from Legend of Zelda is a thief. Because he always takes stuff from unwatched chests. And you should also be considered a bandit if you take things from dungeons in TES games.

But what if I bought the map from a guy that literally said he won this treasure in dice, but doesn’t want to risk his neck getting it? I legitimately bought rights to owning this treasure from a guy that won these rights by playing dice. So it’s definitely not stealing.

Anyway, how can you steal something that nobody owns?

If it’s in a locked chest in a camp with a lit fire with food on it, it probably belongs to someone lol
