Games that take out the fantasy aspect. Like Chivalry, Mount & Blade, Medieval Total War. Does anyone have any recommendations for this theme of games?
If you don’t already know them: The first “Stronghold” and “Stronghold: Crusader”. Great strategy games!

War of the roses is in a way the spiritual successor to Mount and Blade combat. Modern day graphics and a little more sophisticated (actually extremely sophisticated) damage and armor system but no open world or skull drinking.
I already postet them in this similar thread but they are still young - so to speak - and rather unknown, so some advertisement won’t hurt:

Crusader Kings II even though it’s more of a grand strategy, but paradox usually know their history.

War of the Roses, Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, Age of Empires II not III or Online. That is the ones I can recommend from steam aside from what you said. Now let me check my shelves… American Conquest even though it’s not in the medieval period it’s a very interesting game, educational and interesting perspective and maybe you’ll like Settlers.

What’s wrong with the armor? Looks better than M&B
To bad they nerfed the game to death. I loved to play it when it first came out, but they took the nerfing way to far and it lost all fun to me. The game play was fast and furious, supper fun, but they ended up making it feel slow and bloated.

Lol, I guess you haven’t played for a while then. Now the game is a LMB spam-fest now.
War of the vikings (Beta) had a super-dynamic combat system, the WoTR’s evolved.
But now is just spam too. : (
Yeah it has been awhile. Everything was so slow, and that’s goes for the Vikings beta. You may say it is just spam, but in reality the faster you could hit them the better, keep them on the defensive and off balance.
If you allow people to spam attack you, there’s obviously something wrong with your combat mechanics… Doesn’t mean whole the game is a spam fest.
I think the point 213 is trying to make in his typically trollish manner is that armors in M&B (and War of the Roses in extension) are just stereotypical, while not really historically accurate. I can’t really be a judge of that because I’m no expert in the matter.
Actually most armor is historically accurate, they hired people for that.
Well in that case I have no clue what he’s about. He might be just trolling, in which case I fail.
They included like 5 or so items which existed but were phased out during the war of the roses which is a bit anachronistic but only one item (a bear hat helmet) is just in their for giggles.
