The massive graphic downgrade is real. And here is proof (with screenshot)

And I remember clearly how Alpha/Beta players were constantly worried that the game would be downgraded when Warhorse Studios announced that the game would be coming to consoles. There was a huge uproar and it looks like what we feared actually happened. I can almost guarantee that if this game remained a PC exclusive, we would be enjoying Alpha/Beta visuals with proper optimisation. Watch Dogs, Witcher 3, Crysis 2 were all held back/downgraded due to consoles where the cash money is at

Thank you for the comparisons!

As with the comparisons posted before, I notice a few things. Regarding the vegetation, I don’t think it looks worse, but … different. you can see that quite some detailing happened which looks more realistic than before, for example the wood lying around or the edges of the stream.

The difference in vegetation looks more like design choice.
In all those places they seemed to try to create more spaces and compressions instead of a consistent mat of foliage. This creates more distinctive places, shapes for the eye to follow instead of getting lost in … yeah, the woods. I prefer the getting lost thing, though.

A huge factor though is the lighting, which seems to be harsher and more unpleasant while before it was darker and softer and there were more shadows overall. Also volumetric fog. Both are probably lost due to performance issues, but both are really needed to create depth and a kind of “nature fluffiness”. As a result it looks more flat than lifelike.

So I think some good lighting and weather mods will return this depth. There’s already one on the nexus that enables the fog and it looks amazing! but I need a better graphics card first

PS: Talking about this mod www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/42

Design choise or not, congratulations, forests look the same everywhere now. Totaly boring and unrealistic. Heres an other side by side example:

Has warhorse commented on this? If they’re not beholden to some contract agreement with Sony and Microsoft for keeping the pc version “on par” with console versions I see no reason that they can’t explain the decision to switch foliage assets, remove volumetric fog and various other graphic effects. Also, will we be able to reverse these changes with the mod tools when they are released?

I hope its some kind of Contract tbh so later on perhaps they can release a free DLC or something for graphic improvement… otherwise its disappointing if this was free will

@warhorse have not commented on this and I also suspect it’s a contract of sorts. These sort of unfortunate things are always about money.

Anyways… since Warhorse promised to support KCD for a long time to come, I really hope they’ll some day release an update for the PC that unleashes the true Ultra High Quality (utilizing more than 4GB of VRAM for starters).

Consoles were planned since day one, long before the alpha or beta. Either you’re lying, or just hilariously misinformed.

WH picked neither, though, is the thing. This game is now downgraded, and still the technical equivalent of a dumpster fire.

woohoo

Since I love this game for every single minute and I have almost nothing to complain (even just a few bugs in more than 40hrs) the only thing, disturbing me, is the fact that other games on my Xbox one X are looking that much better or sometimes awesome even in PC standards (I‘m using Xbox, gaming pc and PS4).

That’s why this pc vs console discussion is so nasty. Look at Witcher, AC Origins or even Skyrim SE… or Horizon on the PS4. Well, a highend PC is always better (especially since CryEngine is very CPU stressy) but these games look amazing on console. Really! Sometimes I think, the PCler don’t know this in their Self-isolated golden cage.

Now, Warhorse is a small developer with very Limited Budget compairing with Ubisoft, Bethesda, Sony or even CDProjectRed and a downgrade is necessary due better performance but we all know, that this game is poor optimized.
Looking forward that the patches will really help, the developers will understand the engine and the console DevKits better and a sequel will bring a kick like Witcher 1 to 2.

But we all know, since this game needs BUGFIXES every graphic-discussion and downgrade proof is misplaced.

are you sure, as I seam to recall at first there was NO mention of console of ANY flavour, that came later.

No consoles were 100% planned from day one.

I hope Warhorse Respond to that!

Maybe I was just remembering that PC, Mac & Linux should have been here first and that consoles being the afterthought would come later, some time after the release of PC, Mac & Linux, thus NOT impinging on the quality of PC, Mac & Linux just to get it on consoles.

No consoles were always planned.
Warhorse said they were going to develop the game separately for each platform so they wouldn’t have to port it.

planned implied you have permission, originally they lacked permission for the closed platforms that consoles are.

lack of permission from SONY and Microsoft makes consoles at the time afterthoughts to the original intended PC, Mac & Linux platforms for which NO permission was needed.

Buddy, I’m not going to keep arguing with you. you are wrong here, end of. Consoles were always planned, accept reality, or don’t.

I’m not sure why people are hell bent on Warhorse being some double crossing lying company, ive been dealing with them for four years, and haven’t found anything to lead to that conclusion.

Summary
•Planned platforms: PC, Xbox One*, PS4*, Mac, Linux
• Release date: Q4, 2015 on PC, Mac and Linux
• Approx. gameplay time: 30 hours (Act 1), 70+ hours (all 3 acts)

  • Publishing on closed platforms is subject to approval by the platform holder. This can also influence release date there.

What are you even arguing anymore? Your original point, which was consoles were not planned from day one, but announced down the road is flat out wrong.

ok lets come back to topic. Is there now a way to place all factors like position, weather, time etc via console exactly the same in Beta and final?
The texture thing and different vegetation models are confirmed, but to really understand the changes of the shaders it might be helpfull to have good comparisons.
maybe all shaders are the same but a different fog module effects the look of everything else, such thing I would like to sort out as much as possible without knowledge of the code

Source?

volumetric fog at least is dealt with dynamically in the beta, as far as i can tell it’s only on or off in the full release. so no.

various other effects that were removed like puddles/pooling water during rain are no where to be found (unless they’re hidden somewhere) so no.
