The problem with this game is the fanbase

YOu have to attuhe your strategy to armor you wear. You have to check if your stats allow you to use weapons without any drawback, you have to check your speed stat, and ensure you are not using sword with low blunt damage versus knight in full plate armor - there are maces more effective.

The observation I can give you is that it’s random. None of what the game teaches you has any noticeable effect

If that’s all it is, then that would be a pretty bad waste of the combat system

High level character, high level gear. And I know weapon weakneses. You can stab a guy in the face if they have open faceplate and bypass their armor. In fact, damage wise, I’m good and get it. Yet enemy defensive moves are a mystery

simple strikes (eg stab) are more effective early on in combat, fact. if you keep pumping the well, the enemy anticipates (how? i don’t know and don’t care)

Later on it combat, enemy anticipates every move from every direction at random times. In aggregate, I win, but have no control over specific moves and their effect

I agree that some of the mechanics in the game are often left unexplained and sometimes we’re wondering how they truly work… But I have come to understand how these mechanics work by playing the game, and experimenting.

I wish in the tutorials it explained more how the skills work and how they flow in combat… For example when it comes to Master Strikes the higher your defense/warfare skills you will have an easier time performing these. ā€œPlayer Skillā€ is def a determining factor but the higher those two combat skills are the easier it becomes to perform a Master Strike especially if your combat skills are higher than your opponent.

Opponents also have a harder time master parrying your attacks if your warfare skill is higher than theirs. I really wish these mechanics were explained in tutorials, or in a codex or something because when I first started playing the game I automatically assumed that success of Master Strikes happening were totally based on player skill alone, which it is but not entirely ; a lot of it has to with your actual Character skill level as well.

They could have done better with alchemy, it took me awhile to figure that shit out. I wish there was an alchemy tutorial like there was a combat tutorial and archery tutorial.

This game was aimed at realism, and being difficult and it’s why I bought it. I’m not asking to hold my hand, but give us the run down of the basics with in game tutorials, and explain to us how certain skills interact with the world depending on their level because your skill levels matter a lot – especially when it comes to success in combat.

basically you have to focus more on counter attacks and/or striking when NPC drains his stam.

after NPC exhaust his stam, your strikes even if blocked can render an opening that you can chain on… thats not random

The issue is if ā€œhave an easier timeā€ just means RNG. It’s also weird that random peasants have maxed out defense stats

random peasants have stamina, and if they chain on you after you’ve depleted yours youre in trouble

You are of course correct! But I hate blunt weapons and always fight with my longsword, it may not be the best choice against plate in this game but I feel cooler doing it. I think I may have a sword fetish or something

Perfect blocks don’t use stamina. In fact, you yourself can master strike mid enemy chained strikes with the screen blue

Enemy blocking depends on their blocking stat. If they are master striking you, it means they can match your warfare stat somehow

peasants don’t perfect block every single time you counter

I never had a problem with a peasant honestly… They are always armed with crappy weapons. So even if they had a level 20 defensive stat if their weapon bad (Which it usually is) assuming your attack exceeds their defensive stat + weapon defense rating which if you use longswords you will exceed 100% of the time; anytime they block your attack they take some damage and get staggered if they are staggered they are susceptible to follow up attacks.

Could it be something with blunt and axe weapons? It seems Bernard is crazy defensive when you train with clubs

Do you think this discussion will lead anywhere!? The Zeedog person has obviously made up his mind, debating with him/her anymore will not result in anything constructive.

Just a friendly advice, but do as you wish.

I’ve had peasants master strike 2 or 3 times in a row on a high level Henry. Master strikes are basically the best timing you can do with a block, meaning their defense not only was fast enough to perfect block, but take it all the way to master strike. Perfect blocks are also generally more common than regular blocks

It keeps happening on my files, so unless mine are glitched…

I’ve never fought a peasant that master striked that much…

Early game it is possible, late game it is not. A high level Henry and a peasant will have an almost impossible time master striking you if your Warfare is 15+…
