No, it’s not about the thickness of the accent. The main problem is that there is a foreign accent in the first place because the characters in this world aren’t foreigners, it’s their home and their native language in the game is English. Therefore just English. Maybe add English dialects, for all I care. (people seem to need some kind of accent)
Count me in for Czech as a first preference, or more of an old English (which really just sounds more Irish, I think anyway) accent. My third choice would be Elizabethan (albeing with modern accents, like in the stream, but please use the correct usage of thee, thou and you and when you use the- th ending). I think after that would be any other modern accents near that location, such as German, Polish, Hungarian, etc, after that would be modern British and least of all would be modern American.
If she was speaking faster like her usual, I would not understand nothing
British Accent are the very right to pronounce but the very hard to understand LOL
My world history isn’t the best, but if I remember correctly during the 1400s there were different nationalities throughout the country. From natives, who were a mix of Celtic, German, Hungarian and Slavic, to Polish (Bohemian?) and even Roman. Though The Holy Roman Empire was so spread out in the late 1300 to early 1400 so there MAY have been Italians, Brits and Greeks.
In my opinion, they could represent almost any nationality they want because this was a very unstable time in the country religiously and wars were able to start between Catholics and Protestants up until the mid-late 1400s.
In 1403? Are you sure?
Yes, Vávra speaks with quite a heavy Czech accent. Some of the other devs try to speak without it but instead it mutates into some strange mixture of Czech and English accent I would really hate English with a Czech accent (although it still would be better than if they used the typical “slavic” russian accent a lot of films use when there is a czech guy). If the language is English, use (some, but not Scottish, Irish, Australian or American) English accent. If it is German, use Bavarian accent. If it is Latin…well, go to a church, find a priest with some acting skills and persuade him to do the voice acting
Though this might somewhat a cliché, I would appreciate a cleaner and more british accent among the higher class, say lords, kings, generals and such, but I’d like a dirtier, thicker accent from the villagers, blacksmiths, footsoldiers and peasants.Say for example a south London accent or an accent related to the working class.
This might be a bit unusual but at least to me, this would create a bigger impression of the struggle of being a poor commoner during the medieval and also create a bigger difference between the classes.
Am I sure? No, I’m not a historian, just some guy with access to the internet. I haven’t researched it in depth by any means.
Regular british english, but not the way it was in the live stream. Much of the archaic vocabulary they used also felt very shoehorned in there. It might just be because of the quality of the voice actors, since they are place holders, and it might actually sound good if some skilled voice actor created a good flow with them. But yeah, with better voice actors, british english is the way to go.
i really hope they try to make it authentic though.
Czech accents all the way that and maybe a little medieval but not too heavy want to still understand them
I really don’t have a preference, but after watching the developers in the video updates I personally picture the game sounding like them…
@Cerberus Don’t worry, developers aren’t fools, they will do this game in proper English without any silly accents for native citizens. For rest of you, you really don’t know what you’re asking for if you pray for Czech accent. I bet that if you hear it side by side, you would probably choose rather that one with original English accent. As Cerberus mentioned it is really ridiculous to have Czechs to speak in English with Czech accents, it is definitely not natural nor immersive.
I like that Shakespeare touch from the live stream. Granted, the placeholder voices sound a little awkward but I think the lines would be very cool with professional voice actors.
Concerning english + czech accent I’m against it. I kinda like the czech language but listening to accent for hours would be very tiring to me. I’d rather have proper czech with subtitles, that would be more authentic and I could concentrate on reading subtitles instead of deciphering an accent. Who knows, maybe I could learn a few words of it… preferably antiquated czech. Imagine ordering czech beer like that.
I don’t really care. I think you did it right the way you already implemented it: some British English accents. It’s what we’re used to from productions like Game of Thrones or any medieval set game.
Yeah, it’s not set in England or any fantasy world this time, but let’s face it: nobody speaks Czech, but most people understand English.
I thought you were going to dub the game in various languages so we could just choose ours.
I’m against English with a Czech accents because I think it’s a dumb concept… We know they are not really trying to speak English there so why should they have an accent? It’s the same with WW2 era German soldiers in any game or movie when they have a strong German (or mostly fake German) accent which just doesn’t make sense.
Either make it Czech by default with English subtitles (I could imagine that, but I think some people will be turned off by being forced to read subtitles all the time) or just make it the way it’s already in which I would prefer.
Side note:
There’s a German saying: “For me it’s Bohemian villages” when you don’t know something or can’t understand it. I think in the villages Czech was pretty common, but the bigger the city the more you could hear people speak German, am I right?
Also I noticed many of your characters seem to have somehow German names. So maybe it wouldn’t be the case for them to speak Czech to begin with.
Sorry for my ignorance, I’m not so well educated in Czech history.
lol if your in ww2 Germany why wouldn’t they have German accents fake or not. why would they sound British lol omg how does that make sense?? i guess i see what your TRYING to say and good effort its just that one paragraph though.
Because they’re not talking in a foreign language… Fake accents make them sound like they can’t handle their own native language.
well im sure the wont fake a Czech accent if they hire from the country they are making the game in. we will see what they do.
The only accent I want is the one that is done well and immerses me. Czech, British, German (or Hessian or whatever) it doesn’t matter, as long as I’m not left scoffing at the absurdly bad accent/ voice acting.
