What accents do u prefer

These debates about english dubbing with czech accent are ridiculus. I think that Warhorse Studios have proven during KS campaign they are sane. And it is nothing sane on doing an english dubbing with czech accent, it would be absolutely awful and illogical. And I say it being czech myself. If they want to sell the game to more people than some hardcore fans (willing to pay for a game two years before a release anyway…), it will be dubbed in “normal” english.

Doesn’t matter. Even if it’s a real Czech accent it’s only proof of the speaker to not being able to speak the language without a foreign accent. So there’s always that feeling of “this guy is obviously not from here” and you don’t want that in a game where people are actually living their whole life at one spot.

I don’t see how it is either illogical or insane to think a Czech accent would be appropriate or somehow unimmersive. Most movies, for example, would likely use an English accent in this situation, but that’s not really a correct accent at all for an American listening to it, nor an Austrialian, Irishman, Scot, etc. I don’t expect nor think it would be particular immersive to have the game in my own personal accent, for that matter (I mean that’s the only real “non-accent” to my ear, after all). Rather I find it more immersive when accents are regional to the places of the events. In a WWII movie, for example, it’s fine watching a German movie with the actors all using English accents, yet I find those movies more immersive when the actors use German accents. It just sounds appropriate and helps “place” the people and events around them. I fail to see how any of that could be seen as ridiculous or illogical. Honestly the only other method that would make the most sense would be to have everyone simply speak medieval Czech and subtitle it. There are a TON of problems with doing that, though, so personally I would stick to my initial preference of the game being in English with Czech (or regionally appropriate for characters not from the area) accents.

English voice actors pretending to speak with Czech accent? Nah. To be honest, I am opposed to the idea in general - if the game is going to speak english, speak proper english. It doesn’t make any bloody sense for it to be accented, as people in Bohemia didn’t speak english regardless

I would like a mixture of accents, any voices that sound pleasent to my ears

I agree that Czech accent would be different. We always play characters that have British accents, i think a chance to use another accent like Czech is a nice change for everyone.

I agree with you Bluebox146! Releasing both ways would probably make the game better. I also like the idea that there would be both laguages available for the game (English and Czech). I’ll take my example, at least… Like in Asassin’s Creed 2, i prefer to play the game in Italian with my subs in English. I believe that makes the game more reliable and, to some point, credible (taking into account the backgroud effect).

I would prefere British accent over the czech one.

My guess is, the british one would help the game also to become more popular in a global base, as more people are used to it. Czech accent for a few characters would be ok, but for a whole game? Maybe as an optional one.

English speaking Euro accents FTW!

Aka David Suchet

I think what would be optimal for me is if they use the normal accent of the language they are speaking in.

But I also wouldn’t mind the option to play the game in Old Czech with subs… but that would need to be an OPTION. I think there are times where I’d not want to read subs during an epic cutscene some days.

This is very good example of professional Czech accent. Even with some German elements so I think it would fit the game perfectly!

A world full of people who can’t speak properly their native language. That’s a result of english with czech accent in the game. To me it sounds ridiculus. If people in the game will speak english, they should speak like it’s their native language and not like they are strangers in their own country… Yes, english in Bohemia isn’t realistic, but making them speak with czech accent doesn’t add realism at all, it only reminds a player that there is something wrong…

I find American accents in medieval things to be pretty jarring so I’d prefer the British regionals (English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, etc) or do the voice work in native Czech and give it subtitles.

Well, the only slight drawback would be that even Czech people would need subtitles for medieval Czech. It changed so much that it’s almost completely different language. It’s cute when Elves in LotR speak Elvish from time to time, but to have whole game in language no one speaks anymore only for historical accuracy would be a bit of overkill.

What does he say?
Isn’t he embarrassed?
Why doesn’t he let someone else speak for him? :facepunch: :stuck_out_tongue:

Basically that’s what the ‘accent people’ in here really want! :yum:
Nice accent and vocabulary.

To be honest… I’d prefere no accents at all.
I mean, the character was born in that country, wouldn’t it be odd, if everyone was speaking with an accent? This would really break immersion. I would feel like a foreigner, when the majority of people would speak with a Bavarian, British, Scottish or Czech accent.

When I travel to other countries, that would be okay, but not for my home.

It would be far better if the spoken language would sound old by using some old timey words and phrases. Just like “What is thy bidding, my Master?”

Central European accents would be best, based on historical accuracy, plus they are most authentic. German, Polish or Czech accent would be best.
I’m from Eastern Europe and I find Czech accent to be completely understandable, even more so than the British speech. On every video update not me nor any of my relatives had any problem understanding Mr. Vavra or anyone else from the team.
It will be selfish and ignorant to make accents in American or British English only because players from USA or UK can not understand their own language well enough…

Well, I really wonder how would you do that. There isn’t any general English, every English has some accents, even the most general English has at least two accents, British and American.

That’s not true. In fact Czech accents would be the last accents concerning authenticity. Most authentic would be some old Czech with subtitles, then modern Czech with subtitles (which we will probably get, if not from the beginning, then several months later I guess). The thing is that English accents like Czech and Bavarian are not natural, because for those people English is usually their second language. So it would feel that all citizens are immigrants in their own country.

Native people speaking with foreign accents are nowhere historically accurate or authentic!

Ever heard of something called logic? :stuck_out_tongue:

i think games and films and series should all be spoken in the language corresponding with the geographical location and time period.
nothing so irritating as a French knight speaking perfect English.
French people should speak French, Englishmen should speak English.
If the game takes place in Bohemia, then use the language native to that region.
and read the bloody subtitles, will ya’
