What accents do u prefer

Yes, that’s true when the language is used by one country only, or more countries very close to each other. So I guess there are no differences between standard German in Germany compare to standard German in Austria or Switzerland. But English is different. Standard American English is definitely different than British English. So by general English you mean which one? American or British? Because you can’t have some mixture.

I’ve posted there several tongue in cheek examples of English with Czech accent, but now I would like to post one serious example. This one would be probably very close to what we can expect from English with Czech accent in the game. This is clip from low budget American film about Czech history (ridiculous, isn’t it?) called The Pagan Queen. The film itself is disaster, with average rating around 2 of 10. Most of the cast are Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians and Croats, thus there is no native English speaker at all. In my opinion it sounds really weird. Most of the time it isn’t even Czech accent, it is some strange Eastern Europe mixture. They’re struggling very hard to maintain some level of English, where the English is still understandable for average English user, but at the same time has some “local” elements. There isn’t long dialogue in that YouTube clip, so if you want to explore it deeper, I would recommend you to download the whole film on Pirate Bay. Even if you’re against piracy, because the film is definitely not worth of your money.

I thought movie people stopped doing that ridiculous crap? At least most of the newer WWII movies I’ve watched, the French spoke subtitled French, the Germans spoke subtitled German, etc. And yes, I consider it fucking ridiculous to hear people speak English with foreign accents. Besides, the accents usually don’t sound at all like what a real Germa or Frenchman n sounds like when they actually speak English.

The only times I consider the accented English acceptable are in over the top parodies / comedies. Allo Allo did a good job as a TV series with accented English in a WWII setting.

Thank you, @OmarTheBest, for the post and link. It illustrates well my own concern that Czech accent will do the game no good. Except for a small, non-mainstream group of people our accent will count against the title. I am sorry this is so, but I feel this is a fact.

Thanks for the response, I didn’t mean to say the aristocracy was of german desendency,
german speaking people starting to come to the area
by that i meant the migration mostly in the border area, relativly far away from the region the game is set in but still may have some influence on it. That migration started with Přemysl Otakar II. according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottokar_II_of_Bohemia#Legacy

I didn’t mean german influences in any imperialist way I just thought having to deal with the other nobles of the realm my leave some trace at least at the court of the empiror.

The main point of this game is realism so I would go with the Czech accents. Even better would be if they used the real czech language (or whatever language they spoke in that area at that time) with english subtitles (and maybe other languages), but the game wouldn’t sell as much in english speaking countries… Even so I would really like it if they had the option of playing the game in the real native language of the place!

PS: I’m not czech and I don’t know the language.

I would prefer the accent would be based on the location. I would love if I can play with Czech audio and English subtitles.

Czech Accents! I prefer something different from the British or US accents.

Czenglish is terrible, please avoid it.

I would prefer a Hungarian accent for some foreign dignitaries-villains. Not only it would fit with the Sigismund theme, the Hungarian inflection is positively …Transylvanian

Czech one !
Better to have eastern accent eheh

Accent -> no, native languages plus English subs -> yes.

I don’t know any French expect for a bunch of words like “merci”.
So, I wouldn’t hear a difference.
Is it much different compared to contemporary French?

not really different, most of the words are the same. but the conjugation and the pronunciation has evolved , it’s funny to hear

Czenglish is as terrible as Hunglish and any other unnatural accent descented from different language. I guess Hungarian accent would be possible as well as some German accents (which we will probably encounter much more, than Hungarian accent.) but for foreigners only, for majority of population would be best to use British English.

Even though wouldn’t prefer czenglish i have to disagree with “unatural” accents. The accents consider natural like irish, scotish, welsh,… all come from regions originally not native to English. And what about indian (asia) accents how do they fit into that concept for some people in India english my be there native language to others it’s a compleatly forgin language but they my still share some characteristics in how they pronounce stuff.

My problem with Czenglish is i doubt that all/most Czech people speak English the same way. I know that it’s not the case for austrians/germans speaking english, older people have a differant accent then yonger people, lots of people copy “natural” english accents. Somtimes the accent depends on how drunk someone is or how much effort they put into speaking like certain brits/americans…

And did I say that Scottish accent doesn’t sound terrible? Nah, just joking :stuck_out_tongue: But what you’ve written is generally true. Mostly it is thing of education and ability to adapt your tongue to different accent. My point was that nearly every nation has its -----glish version, which is usually the worst version of English you can encounter, not only by accent, but mostly by bending the grammar rules of English toward the native language.

Well, listen to Daniel Vavra and his mates from the team on their videos…We can hear english and with, as I can say, strong czech pronunciation, …or accent.
How do we like the speech sound ? Is this the sound the game should have ?

i have no problem with that. seriously, your native language subtitle at bottom solves everything

if they pick czech, it would be funny if they chose czechish sean bean to do famous voice over
