What do you think of first person?

SCP: Containment breach. Never played it, too scared. I also carefully ration reading the SCP creepypasta - seriously disturbing stuff there. Cool though, most disturbing thing is the feeling “that could be real”

This is exactly what that game needs! All the slots of clothing with this new brilliant layer system would be a waste if I could only see my character during dialogs.
I personally would play in first person but would like to stop once in a while and take a look at my character.

Isn’t that possible at inventory screen?

True, but it is far more atmospheric when you can do it in a certain surrounding, e.g. a cliff or on top of a mountain with a nice view of the countryside, or sitting in a cozy pub.
To be honest, this would rather be a gimmick than a must have.

1st: The immersion is not slight. But if we assume the immersion is slight as you say then it is non-existent in 3rd-person.

2nd: The game is designed for 1st-person, thus no sacrifices, 100% the way it should be. But if they would switch to 3rd-person, just because a bunch of people demanding it, then they would have to make huge sacrifices and eventually ruin the game for everybody because there’s a high possibility it would be half-assed or one of the two modes would be neglect in favor of the other. They would have to redesign large portions of the game mechanics to do it properly, this would affect the development, money and time-wise. Hence changing pivotal things midway is a very bad idea.

I’m with Cerberus here, there’s no point redoing the game because there’s couple of requests for 3rd person.

i never claimed that, and like i said multiple times, in previous comments, they shouldn’t do it at the cost of promised features.

Sadly, last time I’ve played it, the blinking mechanics were used with the singular purpose of pushing the weeping angel-like creatures into the game. But yeah, SCP is a beautiful example of community-driven short story collection. And even better is the fact that it gives the individual short stories a lot of context and surrounding lore to draw inspiration from, great stuff.

Ok, then.

twenty!

don’t do like with first person you get more connected to the character.
Look at the most games, where people get emotional, those games aren’t third person.
Like walking dead game. Or the funny thing, the guy that made that game (more like a movie) with ellen page, was talking constantly about immersion while in third person… hmmm strange, seems like first person just makes the character … empty.

i was wrong, i said “not doing actions”, but i meant not doing stuff that would affect gameplay. What i mean is seeing the animations, the armor, in the environment. Because a simple idle pose in a blank background doesn’t do it.

in dialogue, there will probably be an option or default that the helmet is taken off.
Otherwise, half of the players won’t see any facial animations of their character. Which reduces immersion, which you miss in first person. Your character is just soooo blank. so characterless… . Unless you think the developpers will fail bringing forth a in depth character, then you are better off with a mindless first person.
(this is becoming less rational, too many adjectives)

wait whut?
that could be real?
explain the science to me =)

This entire argument about ‘What’s more immersive’ is just so bloody pointless. I’ve seen well-written characters that I cared about in first person, Daud from Dishonored would be a good example of that. I’ve seen well-writte characters that I cared about in third person, like Lara Croft from the new Tomb Raider.

To be honest I wouldn’t even mention characters like Lee from The Walking Dead, because they wouldn’t even work in first person perspective due to the extreme movie-like execution of the games, and especially not Beyond: Two Souls because it just stretches the very definition of a videogame very thin.

After all tho, no matter what you prefer, well executed result is going to be universally acclaimed. Some people will like it more and some less due to their preferences, but well done FP perspective or well done TP perspective is, in my opinion, prefferable to shitty both. And a need to cater to both groups will inevitably lead to problems in one or the other.

You are reading a report of something disturbing, lots of blacked out spaces. Enough information left out. In front of your mind are reasons why you shouldn’t be scared. It is ridiculous, all scientific education I have up until now says that possibility of something like this existing has a limit approaching to zero.
But you can’t get rid of tiny voice in your head saying: “It could be real, the probability is not that low. There could be a facility containing something like this, in secret. If it were real I bet the people who know about it would try damn hard to keep it secret. I hope it doesn’t escape.”

OT: Give Outlast a shot. Seriously. It’s creepy as fuck and tries to make itself as believable as possible. It even does the entire ‘camcoder’ thing, while plausibly explaining why the hell would he carry a camera all the time. Really, really good. In my opinion, all of this works on people valuing logic because it’s trying to presents extremly illogical concepts in a very logical and believable manner, which just creeps the hell out of me.

I’ve been even able to stomach the game and I’m usually a spiness coward

I’ll be honest…some of the grandness has been completely lost in modern games due to losing first person. When you’re in third person, you’re taken out of the reality. Sense of scale is lost. That feeling of awe when going somewhere new is gone. At that point, you’re just playing a game instead of exploring a universe. I’m completely pro-first person. It also makes it a lot more easier for developers to get people pulled into the universe.

It’s more than just immersion…it’s also helping support an appreciate to the scale of the universe around you.

That’s just completely wrong.
complete the opposite.

because looking at the back of your own head makes much more sense

When talking about the alternative, YES
